Our Story

Planted For Beckenham. Here For The Next Generation

St John’s began in 1932, planted to serve a growing community in Eden Park and the new homes that were springing up around the newly opened Hayes railway line.

From the beginning, St John’s was founded with a clear purpose: to be an Evangelical church rooted in Jesus and committed to serving the local community. It was to be more than a place where people gathered on Sundays. It was to be a church that belonged to its neighbourhood — a place where people could meet, worship, find community and encounter the love of God.

Over the decades, the site has changed. Buildings have been developed, the halls have grown and the community around us has continued to change. In 2022, we celebrated 90 years since St John’s was planted, marking the story of generations of people who have worshipped, served and prayed here.

But while the buildings and generations have changed, the heart of St John’s has remained the same.

We are here to love Jesus, to become more like Him and to make Him known.

And we believe the story isn't finished. The Best Is Yet To Come.
